Hello!, my name is Luc Vroom, 55 and I started My Dutch Legacy Journey in October 2026.
Here is my family and me, our boys are a bit older now, 16 and 17.

I was motivated to start this business because I am very interested, even intrigued, by people with Dutch roots who live far away from “home”. I would love to hear your stories and most of all I would love to make your trip happen.

I grew up in Roden, Drenthe together with my older brother. My roots are in the border region where the three provinces of Drenthe, Groningen, and Friesland meet. Both my father and mother grew up on farms. By the time they had moved out of their childhood homes in the early sixties, their parents were no longer farmers. This was a fairly typical story in those days.

I studied in Arnhem in the field of Logistics, met my wife on the train to Utrecht and we married in 2005. Our two boys were born in 2009 and 2010 and we moved to Houten, Utrecht. I worked for several years at manufacturing companies in IT-related roles. Now I’m looking for change and want to spend my time doing work that is closer to my heart.

I am a curious traveler. Together with a friend I backpacked for 9 months in Australia and Southeast Asia after we graduated from college. My wife and I honeymooned in New Zealand and we also holidayed in South Africa. Those trips were unforgettable. Together with our boys we have developed a passion for the national parks in the USA and Canada, and we have also visited New York. I have crossed the Atlantic over 10 times. In Europe we adore Iceland, Norway, Greece and Italy and of course The Netherlands!

I myself have family living in Canada and New Zealand. Two granduncles left with their families in 1954 for Canada. I have contact with a son and granddaughter of one of the granduncles. One of my first cousins moved to New Zealand in 1989.

My hobbies besides traveling, are skating on wild ice as you name it. We call it “natuurijs”. I am a member of the Friesche Elfsteden, but the last Elfstedentocht was in 1997. Furthermore I like to play golf and padel and I am a big music buff, mainly favoring rock from the 70’s and 80’s like Pink Floyd and the blues.

Facts about me:

  • I have a Dutch VOG, it’s a Certificate of Conduct
  • I have a valid, clean driver’s license
  • I am Certified in Workplace First Aid, CPR, and Fire Safety
